Brian Lobb - BE, CPEng, Dip Bus Admin, IntPE (NZ) - Civil & Structural Engineering - Director

Brian Lobb

Brian, originally from Taranaki, graduated from University of Canterbury and practiced in Christchurch as a Structural Engineer before coming to South Canterbury where he has combined civil and structural engineering working for both the private sector and local authorities.  He has been a director since 1980.

Brian's other interests have included community service organisations of Round Table and School Boards of Trustees, together with supporting sporting organisations.  His current passions include golf and family.

Andrew Rabbidge - B Surv(Credit), MNZIS, Licensed Cadastral Surveyor, RPSurv, CSNZ - Director

Andrew Rabbidge Andrew graduated from Otago University with a Bachelor of Surveying Degree in 1995. Returning to South Canterbury he commenced with the company in late 1995 and was appointed a Company Director in 1999.

Specialising in Resource Managment Planning and Cadastral Surveying, Andrew has years of local experience to guide clients through the resource management and subdivision process from the initial investigation through to completion and the issue of new titles.

Andrew Ross - Planner

Andrew graduated from the University of Otago with a Bachelor of Arts in 2016.

He then had two years as a resource consents planner, before starting at Milward Finlay Lobb in June 2018.

Andrew is a South Canterbury man, having grown up in Timaru and attended Timaru Boys High School.

His interests outside of work include the outdoors, more specifically hockey and skiing.

Blair Hanlin - Senior Surveying Technician

Blair Hanlin

Blair started with Milward Finlay Lobb straight from School in 1980.

Since then he has been involved with many varied types of surveying from LT surveys, Topographical Surveys, Engineering Surveys/Setout/AsBuilt, Storage Dam Design and Setout through to Hydrographic Surveys.

Blair undertakes both Field and Office work using GNSS and conventional Survey methods and also prepares plans using CAD software and final E-Survey plans.

Blair spends a lot of time working in the Mackenzie Country and has a wealth of knowledge in this area.

Catherine Bootherstone - Senior Surveying Technician

Catherine Bootherstone

Cathy was the first female survey technician employed by the Government in 1975, and completed her NZCLS whilst employed with the NZ Forest Service in Christchurch.

In the mid 1980’s Cathy moved to South Canterbury and after working for a private survey practice and within town planning at a Local Authority, Cathy commenced work at Milward Finlay Lobb in 1990.  Cathy is involved with land transfer subdivisions and land development projects in the preparation of applications for resource consent, CAD draughting, E-survey data capture, cross lease and unit plans, consulting with clients, Territorial Authorities and other land professionals.

When not at work Cathy enjoys outdoor activities, sailing, skiing and intrepid journeys.

Chris Rooney - Surveying Technician

Chris Rooney Chris started with Milward Finlay Lobb in 2005.  Since then he has been involved with many varied types of surveying from LT surveys, Topographical Surveys, Engineering Surveys/Setout/Asbuilt.

Chris undertakes both Field and Office work using GNSS and conventional Survey methods and also prepares plans using CAD sortware.

When not at work Chris enjoys boating, sports, fishing and spending time with family.

Sam Elliotte - Surveyor

Sam started with Milward Finlay Lobb in 2014, after completing a Bachelor of Surveying Degree (Credit) at Otago University.

Originally from South Canterbury, Sam returned after University to join us as a Graduate Surveyor. He is currently working towards becoming a Licensed Cadastral Surveyor and deals with a variety of work involving planning, surveying and land development & engineering. 

Outside of work, Sam enjoys hunting and other outdoor activities.

Liz Thomson - Consultant Structural Engineering Technician

Liz Thomson

Originally from Dunedin Liz completed NZCD while working in a team with Professional Engineers before heading to Timaru. Liz joined Milward Finlay Lobb  in 1987 as their structural draughtsperson. Over the years Liz has been deeply involved in many and varied large and small construction developments.
Liz prepares contract documents, writes specifications, carries out site inspections, processes payment claims, project manages and creates all the structural drawings. Liz has earned a healthy respect in the building fraternity for her on-site construction problem solving.

In 2019 Liz retired from full-time employment and is now available as a consultant through the firm.

Liz's other interests are competitive and pleasure horseriding and art, producing works in oil, softpastel and watercolour.

Kayne Robinson - BE(hons), GIPENZ Engineer

Kayne graduated from the University of Canterbury with a Bachelors of Engineering (Honours) in 2014, and joined Milward Finlay Lobb straight after University.

He designs structural systems, provides structural drawings and carries out site inspections for a range of clients.

Kayne is currently working towards becoming a Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng)

His passions outside of work lie with athletics, especially the high jump.

Barry Mawhinney - Senior Head Engineering Technician

Barry started with Milward Finlay Lobb in 2015 and comes from a background in the civil construction industry, previously being a project / contracts manager with a large Canterbury earthmoving and civil construction company.
Barry prepares contract documents including specifications, schedules, tenders, payment certificates and spends time on site testing and observing progress.
In land development projects Barry believes in a team approach, including developers, local authorities, civil contractors and consultants, to deliver a project on time, on budget and to a high standard.
Interests outside of work include looking after a lifestyle block, rugby and family (and keeping Eddie in line!)

Nikhil Bhasin - Structural Engineering Technician

Born and raised in Kuwait, Nikhil decided to complete his tertiary education in New Zealand after his schooling had finished in Kuwait. 

Nikhil graduated with a NZDE at Ara (formerly CPIT) in 2018 and recently joined Milward Finlay Lobb as a Structural Engineering Technician.

Outside of work Nikhil plays soccer for Timaru City AFC.

Eddy By far our best and most loyal staff member, Eddy.

He loves to go out in the field, just as much as he does walking around the office and helping everyone with their paperwork.

He is always saying hello to whoever walks in the door, and is most happy when someone is giving him a treat or a bit of their food in the smoko room
